The Balzan Prizewinner’s Research Projects: Overview 2012
The International Balzan Foundation "Prize" has published the second Overview thatcollects thereports of the Research Projects so far established thanks to the second half of the annual Balzan Prizes.
In 2001, the Articles of the Balzan Foundation established a stipulation that prize winners must designate half of their prize to finance research projects that are preferably carried out by young scholars or scientists.
The overview of the research projects emphasises the Prize’s special vocation to promote new or emerging fields of study or research and amply illustrates the aim of the Balzan Foundation to promote culture, the sciences and the most meritorious initiatives in the cause of humanity, peace andfraternity among peoples throughout the world.

The bookwas presented at an event that will take place on 15 November 2012 at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome, on the occasion 2012 Balzan Awards Ceremony. Events also includes the Balzan Prizewinners Interdisciplinary Forum.
The presentationfeatured as speakers young researchers, involved in 4 research projects, chaired by the Chairman of the General Prize committee, Salvatore Veca.

In twelve years 48 research projects in a wide variety of fields, have benefited from an input of 21.5 million francs and launched the careers of numerous young researchers.
