Balzan mourns the passing of Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt (September 2010)

The International Balzan Foundation joins others across the globe in mourning the death of Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt, 1988 Balzan Prizewinner for Sociology.

Eisenstadt was awarded the Prize for having done "more than any other sociologist of our time to combine sociological theory with historical and empirical research and to promote our knowledge of the uniqueness, affinities and interpenetration of ancient and modern societies in Africa, Asia, Europe and North and Latin America".

Bruno Bottai, Chairman of the Balzan Foundation “Prize”, Salvatore Veca, Chairman of the General Prize Committee and Achille Casanova, Chairman of the Balzan Foundation “Fund”, send their deepest condolences to the Eisenstadt family.
