Balzan Prizewinner Yamanaka now also Nobel (october 2012)

Shinya Yamanaka, in 2010 Balzan Prize for Stem Cells: Biology and potential Applications, also received the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology. The Japanese scientist got the congratulations from the Balzan Foundation and the Balzan General Prize Committee, which two years ago has already highlighted and appreciated the value of his research.
It is the fifth time, after Karl von Frisch (1962), Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1978) and Alan J Heeger (1995) and Bruce Beutler/Jules Hoffmann (2007), that a Balzan Prizewinner later obtained also the prestigious award of the Nobel Foundation.
