Fifth IinteR-La+B in Rome
The fifth meeting of IinteR-La+B (International Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory) will be held at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, on November 16, 2016. The meeting will be devoted to the topic: What is Innovation? with the contribution of Joel Mokyr, Balzan Prizwinner 2015 for Economic History.
IinteR-La+B is organized on the basis of the agreements on collaboration drawn up between the Balzan Foundation “Prize”, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
Publications on Syriac Culture
The following new publications related to 2011 Balzan Prizewinner Peter Brown’s research project Figures in a Landscape: Topography and Hagiography in the World of Syriac Christianity were released at the XII Symposium Syriacum held in Rome in August 2016:
Bibliotheca Hagiographica Syriaca Electronica (New Handbook of Syriac Literature, Volume I)
Qadishe: A Guide to the Syriac Saints (Syriac Biographical Dictionary, Volume I)
These reference works are major steps forward in the field. The Bibliotheca Hagiographica Syriaca Electronica is the first of its kind, with descriptions of over 1800 texts.
The Qadishe, or new guide to Syriac saints, increases the number of entries threefold with respect to the previous one.
They are now available online at Syriaca.org: the Syriac Reference Portal, digital project for the study of Syriac literature, culture, and history.
