2004 Balzan Prize - Awarding Ceremony (November 2004)

On 18 November 2004, at the Auditorio of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome, the Balzan Prizes 2004 were awarded during a ceremony in the presence of the President of the Republic of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, who personally delivered the 2004 award parchments to:

Nikki Ragozin Keddie for The Islamic World from the end of the XIX to the end of the XX century (on behalf of Mrs Keddie, absent for health reasons, the parchment was received by Serge Moscovici, 2003 Balzan Prize for Social Psychology) Colin Renfrew for Prehistoric Archaeology and

Andrea Riccardi, as founder of the Community of Sant’Egidio, for Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood among Peoples
