The Balzan Foundation mourns the passing of James Sloss Ackerman
James Sloss Ackerman 1919-2016
The International Balzan Foundation joins others across the globe in mourning the death of James Sloss Ackerman, 2001 Balzan Prizewinner for the History of Architecture.

Ackerman, born in San Francisco in 1919, US citizen, was Emeritus Professor at Harvard University. He was awarded the Balzan Prize with this motivation:
For his outstanding work on the history of Renaissance architecture which contributed to the modern approach to architectural history based on a systematic critical examination of written and visual sources.

The President of the Balzan Foundation “Prize”, Enrico Decleva, the President of the Balzan Foundation "Fund", Claudio Generali, and the Chairman of the Balzan’s General Prize Committee, Salvatore Veca, send their most heartfelt condolences to the Ackerman family and to his friends and colleagues.
